US Cellphone providers have only recently caught on (in the past year and a half) and started offering ringback tones for customers cellphones. Ringbacks have become huge success and ringback tones have taken off like wildfire with all major cellphone providers now offering them. Most of them don't directly provide customers with free ringback tones or the ability to download them free but there have been rumors about free ringbacks being on their way to a cell phone near you.

Most of the cellphone providers have a different nicknames for ringback tones. Verizon Wireless coined the term Ringback Tones. T Mobile launched their ringback tones calling them CallerTunes. Cingular Wireless calls them Answer Tones. Sprint chose to call them Call Tones. Whatever you call them -- Ringback tones are definitely here to stay!
